Montenegro is a beautiful yet untouched country just outside Europe, bordering Croatia. It has everything you could dream of: mountains, vast lakes, beaches, waterfalls, and wild swimming areas. Your accommodation is a converted olive mill that is simple in design to match its historical character. Surrounded by ancient olive trees, it has a calming and relaxing feel. You are immersed in nature as soon as you enter the grounds with the spacious garden and river flowing next to it, where you can wild-swim each day whilst enjoying views of the mountains.
You can expect a relaxed yet exhilarating itinerary for your 7-night hiking yoga holiday in Montenegro. The itinerary is jam-packed, and we have ensured you get to see everything the local area offers. On your first day, you will enjoy an orientation walk to the historical village of Stari Bar and explore the old fort and the cobbled streets. The next day, there is a guided walk through the ancient olive groves to wild swim spots and waterfalls with pools to cool down in from the heat. There is a big hike day with views of Rumija, the largest mountain in Montenegro, and then relax with a day boating on Lake Skadar, shared with Albania. Enjoy a beach day on one of the many pretty beaches and relax in the garden, cooling down in the river or plunge pool. Enjoy the new local spa on the last day and have a massage and a sauna.
Feel invigorated by nature, hikes, swims and yoga, having met new friends and shared many happy memories. The yoga will be mostly outside in the garden so that you can enjoy the views, and dinners will be inside and outside under the stars or candlelight. We work with our chefs at our Montenegro yoga retreat venue so that the food will be vegetarian, plant-based, creative, and healthy.

Accommodation in Montenegro
You will be staying in a beautifully renovated ancient olive mill. This rustic accommodation (the original mill is several hundred years old) is full of character and simple in design. With an open plan living area that is spacious and airy and it has a beautiful outdoor space with a gentle river to enjoy a cold water dip in the mornings and a plunge pool to cool down in during the day. We have a choice of triple, double, single or twin room options for different budgets and we have included everything in this yoga holiday in Montenegro.
See the room descriptions below:
Triple room ground floor: These are two very large and spacious bunk rooms with double beds. There is one double bunk per person, so you have a lot of your own space. They are ground-floor rooms. They have shared showers and bathrooms. The photo you can see does not do the room justice, as it is gorgeous. They are simple rooms that are clean and comfortable with plenty of space.
Single Rooms: 1st and 2nd floor: We have 6 single or double rooms to share with one other – your choice. They have king size beds.
1st floor: 3 rooms have an en-suite bathroom with toilet, sink and shower.
2nd Floor: 3 rooms have a private shower but shared bathrooms
Twin room 1st floor: Has an en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.
Inside, we have a 100 m2 main common room with comfy sofas, a fully equipped kitchen, and a cosy fireplace.
Outside, there is 2000 m2 of garden space, outdoor seating and a plunge pool.
The patio is perfect for evening meals under the stars, and the vine-clad pergola offers shade throughout the day. Yoga can be enjoyed outside in the garden with stunning mountain views, or in the indoor space if it gets chilly in the mornings.

Sustainability
We are working towards reducing our carbon footprint, and here are some ways we, as a company, are doing this.
We are a 88% vegan company, 10% vegetarian and 2% fish or meat (only when staying in boutique hotels that offer these options). This makes up a huge percentage of carbon emissions that we avoid so easily because our food is still delicious, balanced and even more creative. So, thanks to you all for enjoying our healthy (mostly) plant-based meals.
The difference: Most travel companies struggle to reduce their travellers’ meat and dairy consumption, which accounts for a large portion of their carbon emissions.
We stay primarily in one location for the duration of the retreat. We have started staying in a few locations on our long haul, but it is limited to 2 or 3 locations over an 8 – 10 night period. Staying in one place means low carbon emissions because we aren’t burning fuel to get around.
The difference: Other adventure travel companies move around every two days, using alot of petrol in vehicles for sometimes only 1 or 2 people.
Our activities are low-impact—yoga, hiking, surfing, skiing/boarding, whitewater rafting, SUP, and kayaking are all very low-carbon activities, in fact, zero-carbon (except skiing/snowboarding due to the ski lifts, which is also low). These activities are included in the price we measure. The carbon may increase with travel to and from these activities in vehicles.
The difference: Other travel companies can include high-carbon activities in the price, such as jet skiing, quad biking, and jeep driving, which increases their carbon footprint.
We run more than half of our retreats and holidays in the UK; these are very low-carbon holidays.
We currently don’t measure our guests’ travel as part of our carbon output because our guests don’t only come from the UK, so it is hard for us to predict this. We also don’t include travel in the holiday price, which is not part of our calculations. We know that we provide these holidays, so we are looking to include this carbon measurement in the future so we are investigating how we can reduce this.
The carbon measurements at the top of the page with the icons are per person for the whole retreat.
Ultra-low-carbon holidays
These holidays are below 200 kg per person, and our UK retreats are below 100 or even 70 kg, so these are great adventures for low carbon breaks.
Ski holidays are actually low in carbon!
In France, many ski resorts are turning to green energy to power the lifts. If you eat low in meat and dairy while you’re there and hire your ski equipment, this makes your trip as low-carbon as possible.
How can you help?
There are ways that you can help reduce your carbon when coming on our retreats and holidays:
Travel by train, try slow travel across Europe and the UK.
If travelling abroad to Europe or further afield, choose carbon capture schemes, check out Ecologi. Offsetting is not the best thing to do these days, but try carbon capture where you pay for carbon to be absorbed into the environment.
Car share UK – we recommend when guests travel by train to arrive and depart at the same time to taxi share – which helps keep costs and carbon emissions down. Why not consider car share, too? Most guests who drive come alone or with a friend; we have WhatsApp groups that, if you like, you can see who is driving from your area and enjoy getting to know each other on the way to the retreats, and save on your carbon emissions at the same time!
We are by no means saints when it comes to producing carbon, as a travel company we know this is very difficult to reduce. We are working to reduce our carbon output each year by measuring it and then creating plans to reduce it. We are reviewing all our venues and asking them how they can improve their carbon reduction as we don’t own any of our venues but we would like to work with them to help in any way we can. We want to be transparent with this, so please get in touch for more information. As we change things, we will update the website.

Beautiful Montenegro
Explore the untouched beauty of Montenegro on our walking and yoga holidays. Sandwiched between Croatia in the north and Albania in the south – all three countries having a coastline in the Mediterranean and Adriatic sea, Montenegro has a variety of jaw dropping landscapes that would surprise anyone.
Next to the Croatia border are the Montenegro Fjords around the city of Kotor where the cruise ships sail down. Moving along the coastline where the mountains meet the sea with spectacular cliffs to the north and enjoy sandy beaches down in the south. The rugged landscape inland along windy roads and stunning scenery lead you to Lake Skadar is where Albania and Montenegro meet with a dramatic mountain range. Inland to the north there are the Durmittor Mountains where you can ski in winter! Where we are located in a village called Stari Bar we are close enough to enjoy a whole day hike up the highest mountain in Montenegro – Rumija. With views of fjords and the sea on one side and the rolling hills on the other.
There really is something for every holiday preference in this untouched country from Montenegro walking holidays or the more relaxing yoga breaks Montenegro can offer. They use the currency the Euro but are not part of Europe yet, so the holiday maker can benefit from affordable pricing, unlike its sister country Croatia.
Stari Bar is also a quaint small village steeped in history with a fort to explore and cosy restaurants to relax in. And we mustn’t forget the wild swimming pools that each hike leads to.
