7 Nights Hiking & Yoga Holiday in La Rosiere French Alps

Join us on our 7 night hiking yoga holiday in the French Alps. This retreat will be full of adventure, with three guided hikes in the mountains, and a transfer to Bourg Saint Maurice where you can take part in activities such as white water rafting or cycling. Amongst the adventure you will be staying in wellness apartments where you can relax in the sauna or swim in the pool.

We are so excited to return to the French Alps again this summer for our summer hiking yoga holiday. New for 2024, we are in one of our favourite locations in the French Alps, La Rosiere. To make the most of our La Rosiere hiking holiday, we suggest being an experienced hiker with a good fitness level, as the elevation gain and altitude are very high. This is an active yoga holiday, as all our yoga holidays are, and you are welcome to do as much or as little as you like.

We have chosen this area because we love the Tarantaise Valley and its offerings. You will stay in the same wellness apartments we use for our ski yoga holidays. They are centrally located in the small village of La Rosiere, right at the foot of the ski lifts and slopes, so you can easily access the mountains. This means the elevation is already 1850m, with panoramic views of the whole valley and a stunning sunset every evening.

The first hike on your 7-night yoga retreat in La Rosiere will be beginner-level and low elevation, warming your legs for the harder hikes to come. The second hike will be long and have a medium elevation. The final hike will be high in elevation, around 2400m, and long in length. We also offer an optional extra sunrise hike at Lance Branlette.

The apartments have views of the whole valley, and one has an outdoor terrace. Shops, cafes, and supermarkets are right next door. The apartments have a wellness centre with a 15-meter swimming pool, sauna, steam room, solarium, and spa with massage treatments.

This summer, your week hiking retreat in the French Alps will centre around being in nature, hiking to high peaks and enjoying a packed lunch with stunning views and a dip in glacial lake at altitude. Enjoy an outing to Bourg-Saint-Maurice for those who would like to feel exhilarated with some white water rafting, take a bike out to explore.  There is plenty of time to wind down and relax, read a good book, enjoy the wellness centre, or have a massage.

The apartments are spacious, with a selection of single, twin, and double rooms. They have shared bathrooms and en-suite bathrooms. There are breathtaking views of the Tarantaise Valley on one side of the apartments and on the other, views of the mountains and greenery.

The hiking yoga experience in the French Alps and La Rosiere is a real adventure, and with local qualified mountain guides to show you around, you will reach new heights. Feel connected to nature and escape the heat of summer. There’s nothing like a hiking yoga holiday to exhilarate and enliven body and mind. If you aren’t an experienced hiker, we’d recommend going out on regular hikes before the retreat to prepare for the mountains of La Rosiere.

Yoga will be inside in one of the living spaces with views of the valley below. Feel revitalised by yoga in the morning with all yoga equipment in the evening to unwind and relax. For your French Alps yoga and hiking holiday packing list have a look here.

Sustainability

We are working towards reducing our carbon footprint, and here are some ways we, as a company, are doing this.

We are a 88% vegan company, 10% vegetarian and 2% fish or meat (only when staying in boutique hotels that offer these options). This makes up a huge percentage of carbon emissions that we avoid so easily because our food is still delicious, balanced and even more creative. So, thanks to you all for enjoying our healthy (mostly) plant-based meals.

The difference: Most travel companies struggle to reduce their travellers’ meat and dairy consumption, which accounts for a large portion of their carbon emissions.

We stay primarily in one location for the duration of the retreat. We have started staying in a few locations on our long haul, but it is limited to 2 or 3 locations over an 8 – 10 night period. Staying in one place means low carbon emissions because we aren’t burning fuel to get around.

The difference: Other adventure travel companies move around every two days, using alot of petrol in vehicles for sometimes only 1 or 2 people.

Our activities are low-impact—yoga, hiking, surfing, skiing/boarding, whitewater rafting, SUP, and kayaking are all very low-carbon activities, in fact, zero-carbon (except skiing/snowboarding due to the ski lifts, which is also low). These activities are included in the price we measure. The carbon may increase with travel to and from these activities in vehicles.

The difference: Other travel companies can include high-carbon activities in the price, such as jet skiing, quad biking, and jeep driving, which increases their carbon footprint.

We run more than half of our retreats and holidays in the UK; these are very low-carbon holidays.

We currently don’t measure our guests’ travel as part of our carbon output because our guests don’t only come from the UK, so it is hard for us to predict this. We also don’t include travel in the holiday price, which is not part of our calculations. We know that we provide these holidays, so we are looking to include this carbon measurement in the future so we are investigating how we can reduce this.

The carbon measurements at the top of the page with the icons are per person for the whole retreat.

Ultra-low-carbon holidays

These holidays are below 200 kg per person, and our UK retreats are below 100 or even 70 kg, so these are great adventures for low carbon breaks.

Ski holidays are actually low in carbon!

In France, many ski resorts are turning to green energy to power the lifts. If you eat low in meat and dairy while you’re there and hire your ski equipment, this makes your trip as low-carbon as possible.

How can you help?

There are ways that you can help reduce your carbon when coming on our retreats and holidays:

Travel by train, try slow travel across Europe and the UK.
If travelling abroad to Europe or further afield, choose carbon capture schemes, check out Ecologi. Offsetting is not the best thing to do these days, but try carbon capture where you pay for carbon to be absorbed into the environment.
Car share UK – we recommend when guests travel by train to arrive and depart at the same time to taxi share – which helps keep costs and carbon emissions down. Why not consider car share, too? Most guests who drive come alone or with a friend; we have WhatsApp groups that, if you like, you can see who is driving from your area and enjoy getting to know each other on the way to the retreats, and save on your carbon emissions at the same time!

We are by no means saints when it comes to producing carbon, as a travel company we know this is very difficult to reduce. We are working to reduce our carbon output each year by measuring it and then creating plans to reduce it. We are reviewing all our venues and asking them how they can improve their carbon reduction as we don’t own any of our venues but we would like to work with them to help in any way we can. We want to be transparent with this, so please get in touch for more information. As we change things, we will update the website.

Fly to Geneva. We have recommended flight times so that you can meet the transfer bus included in the holiday price. It takes around 3 hours from Geneva to the La Rosiere venue There is only one transfer for this retreat, so your travel arrangements must meet this requirement, or you will be required to sort your own transfer. See the 'getting there' section for more info.
For a low-carbon adventure, you can take the train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice via London St Pancras train station. You travel via Paris and change there from Gare du Nord to Gare to sud on the Paris Metro and choose to travel through the day to arrive in the evening if you prefer day slow travel.
Yes we provide yoga mats, if you like to use any other equipment please bring it with you
Check-in is from 5pm and check out is at 9:30am

Reviews

Beautiful France

Our France yoga holidays are situated in the stunning French Alps mountain range. We are based in La Rosiere in the Tarentaise valley in winter and in summer.

Any part of the French Alps is breathtaking, with snowcapped mountains and glaciers all year round. We have explored many areas and we come back to this valley because it has so much on offer. The skiing is exceptional and great for all levels and the hiking is so vast and the views are awe-inspiring.

Being connected to nature is one of our values here because we know first-hand the benefits of it for mental health from our years of running retreats. And we wish to protect the planet also now more than ever and The French Alps are accessible by train from Europe and the UK to help do this.

Whatever season you prefer, The French Alps are a stunning location to enjoy yoga, healthy food, great company and your activity of choice so that you return home with your body mind and soul nourished.

For 2024/25 we are running both our ski/snowboard yoga holidays and hiking/multi-adventure yoga holidays in La Rosiere in the French Alps.

We have been staying around this area for the last 15 years and love the summers in the ski resort as much as the winters.

This ski/ summer mountain area is a part of the Tarentaise Valley which comprises other ski areas such as Val D’Isere and Tignes, Les Arcs and St Foy. La Rosiere is situated on the south-facing side of the mountain range so the front face of the ski mountain has sun all day with beautiful sunsets.

Ski Information

Low carbon travel:  If you would prefer to travel by train rather than fly then there are trains via Paris from London St Pancras to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and then only a short 20-minute transfer to your accommodation.

You can get 15% off your ski pass if you travel by train – find out more here.

La Rosiere itself is a part of the San Bernadino ski area, which is connected with La Thuile in Italy which means that you can enjoy the playful traverse to La Thuile which is usually the road in the summer for the mountain pass.  It also means you can enjoy croissants for breakfast and pasta or pizza for lunch. Or a bombadino if you are feeling adventurous!

The ski area is great for beginners, intermediate and advanced, there is something for everyone. Beginners can stay at the front side of La Rosiere and the more intermediate can ski all the way to Italy and back.

We are based in ski-in-ski-out wellness apartments right in the centre of La Rosiere surrounded by shops, restaurants, ski school, and ski hire and fabulous views on the south-facing mountain side so sun all day.

If you are a beginner and have had enough after your ski lesson you can get back to your accommodation easily and choose to relax there or try out the wellness facilities such as a gym, swimming pool, and spa area and relax with a massage. Or have lunch in a restaurant whilst enjoying amazing views.

Summer information

We have chosen this area because we love the Tarantaise Valley and all that it offers. You will be staying in the same wellness apartments that we use for our ski yoga holidays. They are centrally located in the small ski village of La Rosiere, right at the foot of the ski lifts and slopes so you can easily access the mountains. This means that the elevation is already 1850m, with panoramic views of the whole valley and a stunning sunset every evening.

In the French Alps, you are surrounded by nature. You will spend your time hiking to high peaks and enjoying picnics in the sun with stunning views. You also have the chance to visit Bourg-Saint-Maurice and experience white water-rafting. This destination is the perfect place to balance relaxation and adventure.
